8 September 1999

We got a little taste of what lies ahead at the Burning Man festival in Black Rock City, Nevada. For a whole week, we indulged in the freedom of  self-expression in this temporary autonomous zone together with over 20,000 other gypsies and vaudevillians.
Burning Man, which started as one man's dealing with his breakup from a loved one thirteen years ago, has now grown  into a sort of annual carnival. Every year more and fore people participate by creating works of art, theme camps or by simply expressing their true selves in this gathering of tribes. The event culminates in the burning of the man  and most art works are also sacrificed to the flames by their creators.
